This is an engagement through Upwork’s Hybrid Workforce Solutions (HWS) Team. Our Hybrid Workforce Solutions Team is a global group of professionals that support Upwork’s business. Our HWS team members are located all over the world.

Work/Project Scope:

  • The Data Infrastructure team at Upwork is responsible for provisioning, maintenance, right-scaling, cost-effective use, and use-appropriate targeting of many types of stateful storage technologies: transactional databases, document databases, cache/key-value stores, and streaming data stores.

Must Haves (Required Skills):

  • Relational database management experience (Postgres/MySQL/Oracle)
  • Proficiency with database languages: SQL, PL/SQL or pgPL/SQL, for example.
  • Kafka / Kinesis (on-prem or managed), ElasticSearch/OpenSearch/Mongo, Redis/Memcache
  • Analytical databases like Snowflake/Clickhouse/Greenplum, data federation engines like Presto/Trino/Dremio/Athena.
  • Experience with Terraform for managing cloud infrastructure. (CloudFormation, Hashicorp Packer, Chef/Ansible.)
  • Strong scripting experience with Python (preferred), shell (secondary)
  • Experience with AWS. Knowledge of specifics of resource creation and policy (permissions) management in cloud environments.
  • Providing on-call assistance with DB-related incidents
  • Automation mindset. Desire and ability to remove manual repetitive tasks and aspiration to automate yourself out of the problem.
